When we were studying pies in pastry school, so many of us said, “This is not how my grandmother does it.” Our Chef told us one of the problems of being a baker is always trying to compete with childhood memories. So even after two years of pastry school, my favourite pie crust recipe comes from grandma, written on the back of a cigarette package!
I can’t believe Thanksgiving is just over a week away (for my American friends, I am not way ahead of myself, we Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving the second Monday of October)! Everyone needs a pumpkin pie recipe in their baking arsenal. I have been using the recipe for years and getting raves, even a request for a birthday pumpkin pie instead of cake from one family member
I also love scone because they are so easy to make. In about 10 minutes I can have a batch ready to go in the oven. When we have overnight guests, I love to tempt them out of bed with these warm, mildly sweet treats.
What I didn’t expect was the beautiful berries. I knew it would be the beginning of blueberry season, but I also learned about bakeapple, partridge and crow berries!
